Titan
Boats is collaborating with the Canadian Coast Guard
Auxiliary to build a world class marine training
tool: the Fast Rescue Craft Simulator. Collaborating
with simulation specialists at the Center for Marine
Simulation, Memorial University, we are creating
an experience that will simulate Marine Search and
Rescue operations. As well, a simulation program
is being developed to train both entry- level and
advanced navigation, pilotage, and small vessel
operations. An immersive training environment provides
the operator with realistic equipment, scenarios,
and a graphical environment which resembles the
real world operations to the highest degree of physical
realism in a simulated environment.
The
Titan FRC simulator can be used to perform training
in scenarios considered too dangerous for live boat
training (severe weather environments, equipment
fault introductions, reduced visibility, etc) in
a safe, effective, and convenient environment. This
immersive simulator includes: an accurate mathematical
modeling of vessel motion and a mockup of an actual
Titan FRC cabin, complete with real vessel controls
and equipment for a truly realistic experience.
Also, detailed graphical models of the ownship vessel
and target vessels operate in a representation of
the Victoria to Sidney ocean environment that includes
accurate depths, buoys, lights, and charted information.
A 270° surround projection system displays the
environment, and environmental parameters are controlled
by the instructor. Completing the immersive experience
is a 5 speaker sound system providing simulated
engine and environmental noise.
The simulated environment will allow for the training
of three people (a crew) in a closed cabin concept
Titan Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) mockup that
will emphasize the responsibilities and communication
requirements of a three man crew in navigation and
emergency situations. Advanced training concepts
such as positive control, situational awareness,
leadership, risk management, and complex Search
and Rescue missions are built into the upper level
simulator scenarios and courses. As well, customized
scenarios for multiple users are possible such as
tactical missions, advanced collision avoidance
training, reduced visibility operations and more.
